There’s a moment every time a container clears and the doors swing open — pallets stacked to the ceiling, pasta, flour and peanut butter that traveled thousands of miles — when it’s impossible to see it as anything other than what it is. A miracle. God brought it in.
We don’t say that lightly. Getting emergency relief into Haiti isn’t simple, and it isn’t guaranteed. Ports close. Roads become impassable. Plans change with almost no warning. And yet, again and again, the Lord makes a way. Every container that arrives in Port-au-Prince is an answer to prayer — yours and ours.
Where the Food Goes
Once a shipment reaches our distribution center in Port-au-Prince, it doesn’t sit still. It moves out through the relationships and locations God has built over years of ministry in Haiti:
To the churches — our 11 community centers throughout Haiti, which serve as trusted hands in their own neighborhoods.
To our neighbors in need — families nearby who simply don’t have enough, and who know where to come.
To the prison — where men receive food – sometimes just in time.
To the police — officers serving under enormous strain, often without adequate provision.
To the largest tent city in Port-au-Prince — thousands displaced, living in tents.
To the church feeding programs — the ongoing weekly meals that keep children and families going, week after week.
Thousands of people receive emergency relief food every month through this network. We currently import 42 tons of emergency food each year with a goal of 84.
The Need Right Now Is Real
So many people in Port-au-Prince are hungry. Not inconvenienced — starving. Families are hurting in ways that are hard to describe from a distance. Instability has made ordinary life fragile, and the people who were already vulnerable have been pushed further than most of us can imagine.
That’s what makes a container of food so much more than logistics. For a mother who hasn’t been able to feed her children, it’s the difference between despair and one more day of hope. That’s not an exaggeration. It’s life-changing impact, delivered one sack, one loaf, one family at a time.
The Gospel is Delivered With Every Delivery
Food matters enormously. But food alone is not our primary mission.
On every outreach, the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached. Every distribution is an opportunity for people to hear that they aren’t forgotten — not by us, and far more importantly, not by God. When someone comes to faith, they don’t leave empty-handed. New believers receive a Bible, so the Word that reached them can keep shaping them long after the food is gone.
This is why Cross to Light exists: helping people cross from darkness to light by hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Relief opens the door. The gospel is what walks through it.
Thank You
None of this happens without partners.
Thank You to the Lord, who keeps making a way where there is no way. Thank you to our ministry partners, whose giving turns intention into pallets, pounds, and plates. And thank you to everyone who has prayed — for the containers, for the ports, for our team on the ground, and for the people of Haiti. Those prayers are being answered.
We’re deeply grateful.
Be Part of the Next Container
Emergency relief in Haiti isn’t a one-time effort — it’s a weekly commitment to people who are counting on it. Becoming a Monthly Partner is the most effective way to help, because consistent support lets us plan shipments, secure food, and keep the community centers supplied instead of waiting to see what comes in.
You can also share this story with your church or small group, or lift up our team and the people of Port-au-Prince in prayer this week. Every part of it matters.
Sending the gospel forward.
