The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed. Luke 4:18
A mission team came out for a week from Harvest in Riverside, CA and had a great day out helping a prison in Croix-des-Bouquet. Cross to Light has been given an open door to the prisons in and around Port au Prince, Haiti. Because of the conditions in the prisons, this open door is extremely rare for a US based organization operating in Haiti. Cross to Light focuses this prison ministry effort on bringing teams in for the purpose of sharing the gospel with the prisoners, some of who will never be released in this life.
One requirement for the prison visit is bringing enough supplies for 75-100 prisoners. The mission team prepared ahead of time to include a prison visit and conducted a fund raiser. They raised enough funds to cover the purchase of ceiling fans for many of the prison cells. They went out in the Cross to Light outreach truck; loaded up with sound equipment and ceiling fans. Only a portion of the team was allowed into the prison. They brought in the fans to be installed in the cells.
The prisoners, many packed into one cell, heard the gospel and received a little relief with the fans. They were so thankful! The team that stayed outside the prison spent their time singing worship songs as they waited. The sound of worship went out into the surrounding area around the prison. Many of these prisoners received a little relief now and eternal relief later.
