As you celebrate Christmas, you are celebrating the arrival of the Messiah, the birth of the Christ.  In order to be called the Christ or the “Messiah” a man must fulfill at least the following twelve prophecies at his birth and childhood alone, not to mention the rest of the 300 plus prophecies identifying who the authentic Messiah is.

Born in the House of King David

Prophecy: “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called:THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jeremiah 23:5-6 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father, David. Luke 1:32

Fulfillment: (Jesus Genealogy) the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David, Luke 3:31

Born in Bethlehem

Prophecy: But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting. Micah 5:2

Fulfillment: Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:4-7

Born in a Manger

Special Significance: “Manger” derives from the Latin word “mandūcāre” and means to chew or eat.

Fulfillment: Jesus explained, “I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?” Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.  Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.” John 6:48-58 He further explained, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63

Worshiped and Presented gifts by Kings

Prophecy: The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts.Psalm 72:10

Fulfillment: behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew 2:9-11

Worshiped by Shepherds

Prophecy: Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him. Psalm 72:9

Fulfillment: So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. Luke 2:15-18

Egyptian Childhood

Prophecy: “When Israel was a youth, I loved him and out of Egypt I called My Son…out of Egypt I called My Son.” Hosea 11:1

Fulfillment: an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.” When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.” Matthew 2:13-14

Child Terror Evaded

Prophecy: A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are no more. Jeremiah 31:15

Fulfillment:  Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. Matthew 2:16

Jesus is a man who fulfilled over 300 prophesies over the course of his short life on earth through his birth, life, death and resurrection; each one miraculous.  As we celebrate Christmas, let us be reminded of the greatest miracle ever performed; the payment of our sins through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
